THEME OF ROUND-TABLE AND FOCUS

This is the first national Round-Table Forum to bring African women representatives from around the nation to discuss the role of African women as agents of change, and develop a National African Women’s Plan of Action.

The Forum will facilitate networking among and between African women’s groups, enhance relations between the African Women’s Council of Australia and other women’s associations in Australia, African community representatives, government, businesses and service providers.

The Theme of the Round-Table Forum is:

African Women as Agents of Change: Challenges, Solutions, Opportunities and the National Plan of Action.

The Round-Table Forum is a platform for a focused conversation and action on three main issues:

African Women as Agents of Change

Mapping the place of African Women and Children in Australia

Developing a National African Women’s Plan of Action

Deliberations will be presented to the Government

It is just right to hold such an important forum at this time especially 2011 being a Centenary of the International Women’s Day and the International Year of People of African Descent. The participation of women from diverse cultural, linguistic and religious backgrounds in social, economic, cultural and political life of a nation is crucial in achieving the Millennium Development Goals.
